The Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) conducts and coordinates one or more areas of the total parish religious education program.

Competencies

b. Coordination of Catechist Development

c. Management

Education (one of the following)
a. BA in Theology/Religious Education or a related Theological field, and six (6) credits or sixty (60) clock hours of in-service distributed over the following areas (if not represented in the BA): administration, catechetics, and educational methods.

b. BA/BS in Education with twenty-four (24) semester hours of college in theology and catechetics which includes courses in the following areas: Scripture, Liturgy/ Sacraments, Systematic Theology and Morality.

c. BA/BS in unrelated field or no college degree with twenty-four (24) semester hours of college credit in theology and catechetics (as in #2 above) and six (6) credits or sixty (60) hours of in-service distributed over the following areas: administration, educational methods and catechetics.

d. A certificate of completion of the five years of the Ministry Formation Program with an internship in the fourth and fifth year which includes field experience under the direction of a field supervisor and twenty (20) clock hours of sessions on Catechetical Leadership.

Catechist Recognition

Recognition as a Catechist at the advanced level or its equivalent.

Experience

Three (3) years of supervised catechetical experience and one (1) year of administrative experience.

Diocesan Policy on Sexual Abuse--Training

Participation in the educational sessions on the Diocesan Policy on Response to Child Abuse and Adult Sexual Misconduct (Protecting Youth and Those who Serve Them.)
