In Grade 3, students will …

 

RELIGION:

·        Know that the Church is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic

·        Realize that they are part of the Toledo Diocese

·        Know the meaning of the term “Trinity”

·        Know the meaning of the term “Incarnation”

·        Realize that Mary is the Mother of God and our model of faith

·        Know the terms “Immaculate Conception” and “Annunciation”

·        Know about saints and angels

·        Name the three categories of Sacraments

·        Know the two principal parts of the Mass

·        Understand more about each part of the Mass and how to participate

·        Be familiar with the various seasons and colors of the Liturgical Year

·        Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and the Apostles’ Creed; and experience praying the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross

 

LANGUAGE ARTS:

·        Read text using fluid and automatic decoding skills

·        Identify basic elements in fiction, such as main idea, supporting details, and characters

·        Identify non-fiction structures such as table of contents and key words

·        Spell multi-syllabic words correctly

·       Write legibly in cursive

 

MATH:

·        Identify and generate equivalent forms of whole numbers

·        Compare and order commonly used fractions and mixed numbers using number lines

·        Develop fluency with multiplication and division facts

·        Extend multiplicative and growing patterns and describe the rule in words

·        Collect and analyze data from an experiment, such as recording and classifying observations in response to a question posed

·        Fluently translate data among charts, tables, line plots, picture graphs and bar graphs

·       Analyze two- and three-dimensional geometric shape

 

SCIENCE:

·        Describe different kinds of investigations that scientists use depending on the questions they are trying to answer

·        Compare the life cycles of different animals

·        Describe an object’s position by locating it relative to another object or background

·        Describe how technology can extend human abilites

·        Describe the layers of the earth: crust, mantle and core

 

SOCIAL STUDIES:

·        Compare some of the customs and traditions of different groups of people who have lived in the local community including religion, food, language and art

·        Define and measure time by years, decades and centuries

·        Use political maps, physical maps and aerial photographs to explain ways people have affected the physical environment

·        Compare cultural practices and products of people who have lived in the local community

·        Explain and give examples of the opportunity costs of personal decisions

·       Identify the rights, freedoms, and responsibilities that accompany citizenship

 

ART:

·        Recognize art in secular and liturgical ceremonies

·        Identify warm and cool colors

·        Construct a collage

·       Understand the concept of balance in a design

 

MUSIC:

·        Understand music reading skills and terms

·        Develop music performance skills

·       Participate musically in the Liturgy

 

HEALTH:

·        Learn that alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine are drugs

·        Understand the importance of making healthy choices about drugs and alcohol

·        Identify and relate with the feelings of others

·       Be introduced to the various body systems

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

·        Develop motor skills

·        Understand the importance of proper fitness and wellness

·        Develop social/emotional skills including team play

·       Understand the importance of safety considerations when taking part in physical activities

 

TECHNOLOGY BENCHMARKS:

·        Be introduced to keyboarding techniques

·        Understand basic issues related to responsible use of technology

·       Be introduced to various technology tools

·        Use a variety of technology tools for writing, communication, and publishing

·       Be introduced to the Internet as a research tool
