In Grade 7, students will …

 

RELIGION:

·       Know that Jesus is fully human and fully divine

·       Know the meaning of the term “Paschal Mystery”

·       Realize that they are temples of the Holy Spirit

·       Know the two Marian dogmas:  Immaculate Conception and Virgin Birth

·       Know the four Cardinal Virtues

·       Understand that the values of society are often contrary to the values of the Church

·       Know the steps needed to inform their conscience

·       Know the meaning of the Beatitudes

·       Know the three moral determinants

·       Differentiate between “literary form” and literal meaning

·       Know the major divisions, events, places, people, and teachings of the New Testament

·       Know some differences among the four Gospel accounts

·       Know the various parts of the Mass and how some parts are modified during the Liturgical Year

·       Be familiar with the structure of the Liturgy of the Hours

 

LANGUAGE ARTS:

·       Use knowledge of Greek, Latin and Anglo-Saxon roots and affixes to understand words

·       Explain interactions and conflicts between major and minor characters and how it affects plot

·       Write stories that keep a clear focus and point of view and use sensory details and dialogue to develop plot, characters and specific setting

·       Use various communication techniques, including oral, visual or written reports to present information that has a clear position and necessary evidence about the topic

·       Give persuasive presentations that establish a clear position; include relevant evidence and use common organizational structures

 

MATH:

·       Solve linear equations and inequalities symbolically, graphically and numerically

·       Use formulas in problem-solving situations

·       Construct arguments based on an analysis of data

·       Identify and draw three-dimensional objects from different views

·       Apply transformations and use symmetry to analyze mathematical situations

·       Understand the difference between surface and volume

·       Use a variety of strategies to estimate, compute, solve and explain solutions

·       Develop and evaluate inferences and predictions that are based on data

·       Select appropriate statistical methods to analyze data

 

SCIENCE:

·       Explain that variables and controls can affect the results of an investigation

·       Explain the biogeochemical cycles which move materials between the lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere

·       Investigate how matter and energy can change forms but the total amount remains constant

·       Investigate the great variety of  body plans and internal structures found in multi-cellular organisms

 

SOCIAL STUDIES:

·       Describe the political and social characteristics of early civilizations in India, China, Egypt, Greece and Rome after 1000 B.C.

·       Use peace and justice concepts to critique factors that contribute to cooperation and conflict

·       On a map, identify places related to historical events being studied and explain why they are important

·       Compare direct and representative democracy using examples from ancient Athens, the Roman Republic and the United States today

 

ART:

·       Identify intermediate colors

·       Mix tints, shades, and complementary colors

·       Identify incised, relief, and freestanding sculptures

·       Draw in one- and two-point perspective

 

MUSIC:

·       Understand and use music skills and terms

·       Participate in the Liturgy

·       Study the role of liturgical and other sacred music and know how they have evolved

 

HEALTH:

·       Know the importance of building life skills

·       Develop ways to resist peer pressure to use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

·       Participate in:  individual and team sports; fitness; and wellness activities

·       Develop social and emotional skills including team play, positive social interaction, acceptable display of emotion, and responsibility

·       Incorporate safety considerations when taking part in physical activities

 

TECHNOLOGY BENCHMARKS:

·       Demonstrate ethical and legal behaviors when using technology

·       Develop keyboarding skills with proper techniques

·       Understand proper file management using different computer drives

·       Understand a variety of communication tools

·       Use the Internet for research

·       Evaluate the accuracy, appropriateness, and bias of resources found on the Internet
