In Kindergarten, students will …

 

RELIGION:

·        Realize that God is good, made each of us special, and loves us

·        Know that Jesus died for us and rose on Easter

·        Understand that Mary is the Mother of Jesus and our mother

·        Know that Baptism is the way we become members of God’s family, the Church

·        Express sorrow for unloving choices and realize that Jesus forgives us

·        Realize that the Bible is a holy book about God and God’s people

·        Know some people and some stories from the Bible

·        Understand that Mass is the most important way we worship God

·        Describe prayer as talking and listening to God

·        Pray the Sign of the Cross, a form of Grace before and after Meals, and know where the Stations of the Cross are located in the church

 

LANGUAGE ARTS:

·        Read one syllable and often heard words by sight

·        Understand new words from the context of conversations

·        Hear and say the separate phonemes in words

·       Print their own first name using capital for first letter and lower case for the rest

·        Demonstrate an understanding that print has meaning

·        Listen attentively to speakers, stories, poems and songs

·       Use correct sentence structures when expressing thoughts and ideas

 

MATH:

·        Measure units of time and compare calendar elements

·       Compare and order objects of different lengths, areas, weights and capacities using relative terms such as longer and shorter

·        Develop a sense of whole numbers and represent them in flexible ways such as relating, composing and decomposing

·        Use place value concepts to represent whole numbers

·        Analyze, represent and solve simple problems using addition and subtraction

·        Represent commonly used fractions (1/2) with words and physical models

·        Count money using coins and bills

·        Compare and order objects of different lengths, areas, and weights using relative terms such as longer, shorter, more or less

·        Recognize, describe, and extend patterns

·        Recognize, name, draw and build geometric shapes e.g., circle sphere, cone and cylinder

·        Gather and organize and represent data using concrete objects, pictures and graphs

 

SCIENCE:

·        Understand that learning can come from careful observations and simple experiments

·        Explore differences between living and non-living things

·        Observe and explain how the sun, moon and stars all appear to move across the sky

·        Investigate structures in plants and animals that help them live in different places

·        Explain that living things cause changes on Earth

 

SOCIAL STUDIES:

·        Use vocabulary associated with time

·        Identify different cultures through study of holidays, customs, folktales and music

·        Describe some ways people are alike and different

 

ART:

·        Identify types of lines and shapes

·        Identify colors and textures that are the same and different

·        Understand relationships such as above-below, right-left

·        Begin to explore drawing, painting, cutting, and gluing

 

MUSIC:

·        Understand that music can be written down

·        Create new verses to songs

·        Explore music through body movements, singing, and listening

·        Identify classroom instruments by name

 

HEALTH:

·        Understand dental health

·        Identify and explain the uses of the five senses

·        Talk about feelings

·        Demonstrate good safety rules

·        Name adults who can be trusted

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

·        Develop motor-skills

·        Participate in movement, rhythmic activities, simple games, relays, singing games, stunts, tumbling

·        Understand the importance of safety considerations

 

TECHNOLOGY BENCHMARKS:

·        Use input devices (e.g., mouse, keyboard) and output devices (e.g., monitor, printer) to successfully operate computers
·        Use appropriate terminology for computers (e.g., mouse, keyboard, monitor, printer)

FORMATIVE OUTCOMES
