Kaleidoscope Youth Representative

Jordan Mocek

Hi my name is Jordan Mocek, I am a Junior at Central Catholic H.S. I am the Kaleidoscope Area Rep. When I ran for Youth Council I was praying so much that I would be elected. After my first Youth Conference I was going to run. I wanted to run because I thought that it would be fun (which it is a blast) and I saw it as an opportunity to meet people from other places in our diocese. I ran my sophomore year but unfortunately I was not elected. But I am glad that I was not, because then I could gain more knowledge about how things were done. And that happened because I had some wonderful people helping me along the way. One of those people was my Area Coordinator, Vicki Fitts. She encouraged me to run and not give up. She also would always be there for me. Another would be the Area Rep. at the time, Katie Flynn. She also was there to encourage me. She was one of the Council members from last year that I became close to. One more person who helped me was my wonderful Youth Minister, Linda Gutierrez. She has been the biggest influence in my decision to run. She is like a mother figure to all of us my Youth Group. She would sit there and ask me if I was going to run for the last two years. She would also tell me never to give up at anything that I did. She complimented me on so many things. She told me that I was a good leader and she also asked me if I wanted to attend Leadership. So I jumped at the chance. What the heck, I have nothing to loose. So I went and I had a blast. I had the most awesome group of people. But anyways back to Youth Council. When I found out this past Youth Conference that I was running unopposed, I was so happy. This was my turn to be Area Rep. Everyone was so happy for me because I was elected. People told me that I deserved to be on Council because I am such a good leader. During our "first" council meeting Diane asked if anyone was going to run for Council President. I was the first who answered her. Then she asked again and then someone else stepped up to the plate, Spencer Tuttle. Unfortunately I was not elected, but that did not upset me because I knew that he would be a very good president. So here I am the 2002-2003 Kaleidoscope Area Representative. I hope that there are more people from the Kaleidoscope Area who have enough time and talent to dedicate themselves to something like Youth Council. It is a lot of work but it is all worth it. You will gain so much from the experience and it will also turn you into a great leader. So God Bless and Go Kaleidoscope!!
