The South African school year begins in January and ends in December.  Here is the school schedule for Maris Stella and Nkosiyethu.

Term 1:    22 January to 28 March

Break:      31 March through 7 April

Term 2:      8 April to 27 June

Break:      30 June through 21 July  (This is known as the Winter Break.)

Term 3:   22 July to 26 September

Break:     29 September through 3 October

Term 4:    6 October to 5 December (the end of the school year).

Because South Africa is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are the opposite of the United States.  Christmas is celebrated in summer.  The break from school for summer and Christmas is taken at the same time from early December through mid-January.
