FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT…

Hopefully, the above logo looks familiar.  Our long range school planning effort, “Catholic Schools Initiative 2010” continues!  Even during the summer, usually the “off-season” for school planning, work has been progressing in several of our regions.

We also see that the planning process is evolving.  Different needs and situations require different approaches.  But in all cases, the same four elements are present in all of our ongoing long-range planning efforts:

  • It is necessary to plan for the long-range future of our Catholic schools
  • It is vitally important to involve as many stakeholders as possible in the process.
  • Collaboration across parish and school lines is necessary for effective planning.
  • Work in each of the regions should be based on the Mission and Vision Statements established at the November, 2005 “Catholic Schools Summit”

In the coming weeks, I’ll be providing updates on specific efforts and examining how the long-range planning process is evolving to meet regional and local needs.  Also, be sure to check our website:  www.cyss.org/Summit/summit.html  This page will be updated in the near future.

Every long-range school planning study starts with a look at demographics.  For your own planning, an excellent website for demographic information is: www.city-data.com   This website provide much detailed information by state, by city, by zip code, etc.

SCANTRON TEST ADMINISTRATION TRAINING:

REGISTERED PARENT SEX OFFENDER CONTRACT:

If a student’s parent is a registered sex offender it is highly recommended that the school mandate the parent sign a contract specifying restrictions regarding school involvement and building access.  CYSS has a contract crafted by Mr. Tom Pletz, Diocesan Attorney for schools to utilize.  If you have used the “Diocesan Contract” with parents as registered sex offenders in previous years, be aware that this contract has been revised for this year and should be re-signed every year.  For more information and a copy of the contract in Word format, please contact Frank DiLallo, Diocesan Case Manager at the Catholic Center or email him at: fdilallo@toledodiocese.org.
